Now that I can sit for awhile at my computer, I am getting caught up on a bunch of what I like to call my fave 'anomaly sites'. While over at the Exopolitics Blog (www.exopolitics.com) today, I ran across the article I have posted below. (It was posted over at the Exopolitics Blog in December of last year.) While the tone of the original article is, to put it bluntly, 'basic spin-propaganda smart-ass', I am looking right past that to the main question the article begs--
Why would 20th Century Fox do something like this???
It's rather an expensive thing to do for a mere publicity stunt, and (if the smart-ass attitude of the article is taken at face value) a completely pointless thing to do, even as a publicity stunt.
So, again, I'd like to know--
1.) Why did they do this?
2.) Why did they pick this particular movie?
3.) Who actually paid for the space transmission of the movie?
4.) Who exactly is the 'Deep Space Communications Network' mentioned at the end of the article?
5.) What exactly do they do for a living? (I personally find it hard to believe they just sit around beaming selected TV programs, movies and music into space, as the article implies...)
6.) Why does the Space Center in Florida allow a private group to beam stuff like The Day The Earth Stood Still into deep space from the Space Center?
7.) Why does the article itself not answer any of the above questions?

The first deliberate deep space transmission of this highly anticipated science fiction thriller will begin this Friday, December 12, 2008, to coincide with the film's opening day on Planet Earth. For those folks who visit here who follow Richard Hoagland's work, I have to observe that his stance that certain folks in Hollywood know things that are central to the whole UFO/life on other planets question seems very pertinent here.
Also worth mentioning is that in this instance, the smart-ass tone of the article does not hide anything-- rather, it makes the decision of 20th Century Fox to beam this movie into deep space even more problematic. After all, why bother spending money on a 'publicity stunt' that everyone is just going to laugh at the way the article itself does?

One Tough Tigress...
On December 15th, 2008, I was involved -- as a pedestrian who was struck by a car-- in a hit-and-run automobile accident. I was crossing the street in a marked crosswalk with a green light and 'walk' sign when I was struck by a driver making a left-hand turn.
I saved myself serious injury by jumping onto the hood of the car-- my plan was to ride the hood until the car stopped moving-- but since the driver did not stop and I was unable to find a good enough hand-hold, I wound up rolling off the driver's side fender and into the street. My martial arts and dance training served me well, as I was able to fall and roll properly, but the impact of jumping onto the hood of the car caused a hairline plateau fracture of the right tibia. Since the car was still moving forward as I was rolling off the fender, I also sustained a metatarsal fracture in the left foot.
I also had a lot of internal bleeding in the right lower leg, so I wound up in the hospital for four days and then was in acute care rehab for twelve. I am finally well enough to be back home and to sit at the computer for a short period of time, so I am now able to post to my blog to explain what happened to me.
The story, as nasty as it is, has a good ending. First, I am expected to make a full recovery, although I am still facing a fair chunk of rehab for the muscles in my right lower leg. Second, the guy who hit me has been arrested and booked into the County jail for A) striking me while I was in a marked crosswalk, and B) for leaving the scene of the accident.
Something that is not so good is that the driver of the car who hit me was uninsured, so it looks like my own insurance company will have to cover my costs, but at least they have a person to go after thanks to a good samaritan at the scene who managed to get the license number of the car as it left the scene. There were also several witnesses who provided the police with such detailed information that they were able to effect the arrest of the driver the same day I was hit. My sincere and heartfelt thanks goes out to them.
So long story short, I am back-- very sore and very bruised and walking with cane at the moment, but I am back!
